Images taken with the 1.54-m Catalina telescope on 27 and 28 January 2007 showed a coma and tail on the 18th magnitude object. Jim Scotti recovered 2006 XG16 with the 1.8-m Spacewatch II reflector on 14 September 2013 when it was 22nd magnitude.
