COBS lightcurve
This very unusual asteroid, originally classified as an Amor, was discovered by the
Catalina Sky Survey with the 0.68m Schmidt on 23 October 2013. The asteroid has
a retrograde orbit with a period of over 400 years and perihelion at 1.1 au in July
2014. The Earth MOID is 0.11 au. The Tisserand parameter of the orbit with respect
to Jupiter is -0.97. It will approach the Earth within 0.3 au in 2014 July.
On 2014 May 7 Ayrtom Novichonok and T Prystavski noted cometary features in
images taken with the 0.5m iTelescope at Siding Spring. An MPEC giving the
cometary designation [MPEC 2014-K36] was finally issued on 23 May.
